Hello all :)

My key fob started playing up....
It will always start the car, but when I try to lock/ open the doors it wont work, not even on the IR.
Then out of the blue it will work all day.... till it suddenly decides to stop again.

They red led on the key always lights, batts are new, the car radio still gets it's stations, and the doors lock with the dash button.

What could be the problem?

(2001 C270 CDi, three button remote, removable blade key type)

Any suggestions before I just buy another key? Its done it again today, would not lock at the station, would not unlock on my return (used the metal key to get in).
But Locked fine, just as I got home.

This could just be a through hole plating fault.
There is 2 parts to it,, the long range RF and the close range when you point it at the door handle.

To see if the key is working when it will not unlock, point the key into a digital camera and see if you can see the beam.

I thought I answered yesterday, but I must have forgotten to push the post button

Thank you Willow, Always a good idea, but as with all my problems it is never that easy.... :)
My spare key used to be the main key, but it had issues, thats why I had been using this key.

Wow, yeah if you think you can fix it Malcom, I shall send it over. It starts the car ok, just sometimes it gives up opening and locking, when this happens there is no red led on the remote. But when ever the LED flashes (after a soft technical tap) it works fine.
Its in a right state, the plastic over the keys are all cracked from use.

I would like to just check if the IR beam is visible when the red keyfob LED wont light....

Finally got it to fail again.
But it took for me to put the key in the car, for it to fail.
I had been locking and unlocking from outside every so often trying to re create the fault.
While it was failed, I checked with the camera, and I could see a beam.

Messed with the key in the ignition a few time and tried to lock and it worked, is this fluke or could this have affected anything?
