Using Keyless Go to unlock and start our 2019 GLE 400D, then drive away leaving the key behind, the car continues to run, until the car is next switched off. That could be many KM's away. Is there a solution or change of settings, allowing the car engine to stop once its out of key range ?.

Thanks

Yes, remove the Start/Stop button and use the key:)
Newer ones don’t have a button you can remove, sp it’s always keyless.

I never checked the settings in mine to see if I could alter them, my bike is the same. “Lost connection to key, restart not possible“ it could be quite a long way away by then…:(

Apart from the very rare and isolated occurence that is mentioned 2 posts above, the driver of a vehicle should never be doing so without being in possession of the key. It might be possible to invent a situation purely for the purpose of posting, but if you are being completely honest about it you know I am talking sense.
This is a complete non issue.

Ron240. What a despicable response. Your suggestion that the post I made was an invention for the purposes of making a posting only, is a f….ing insult.

Fact is my wife dropped the key out of her coat pocket while getting into the car. Because of the proximity of the key to the car she was able to start it and drive away. There were no MBUX warnings that the key was not in the car.

She was lucky in the fact that someone picked up the keys, and handed them to the local police station (Spain), and she was able to recover them.

The purpose of my joining this forum, was to ask if it was possible to change the Keyless Go settings so that the car stopped running if the Key was absent, after a short distance. Apparently it’s not. However, if you are an example of the kind of individual that populates this forum I have obviously wasted my time. What a sad individual you are are.

No, you have misunderstood what I said.
My 'inventing a situation for the purpose of posting' was intended for potential replies to my post, not directed at you in any way.
As a veteran of internet forum sites I have learned that if you say something cannot or should not happen, there will usually be somebody that rightly or wrongly contradicts you.
Your Mercedes is functioning differently to my 2021 Mercedes and also my 2020 one because neither of my cars will start if the fob is not located inside the vehicle. In fact come to think of it none of my keyless cars dating back to 2014 would start if the fob was not located inside the vehicle.
When my engine is running and I step outside of my car there is a continual audible alert and a message on the dashboard.

I have not been rude to you in either of my posts...and if you look again hopefully you will change your opinion. :)

Exactly my experience with both my 2002 SL and MrsLK's 2018 MINI.

The SL won't start even if the key is in my right trouser pocket.

I have to say I'm surprised the OPs car would start with the key outside the car and door closed (which is how most of us would be to start the engine).

OP have tried reproducing this condition?

I decided to put this to the test just to prove it to myself.
I got in my car then leaned out and placed the fob on the ground in line with the sill.
With the door still open I pressed the button to start my car and 2 messages one after the other came up on the dashboard which I have attached below. 1.jpg 2.jpg

Interesting. I also have tested the key on the ground below the drivers the door sill. It started twice out of five attempts. It would not start when the key was moved about 15cm's laterally away from beneath the door sill. However it started every time the key was placed on the running board immediately below the drivers door sill. (Its a GLE 400D AMG). So I am making an assumption that the key dropped initially on to the running board, and then onto the ground once the vehicle was moving. Assumption only.

However that wasn't really the point of my question. My question was is it possible to adjust the Keyless Go settings so that the engine would switch off, hopefully with some form of prior warning, if the car moved out of the Keys range. Apparently it is not.

It is not possible to adjust the key range or behaviour of the car.
The reason the engine will not stop is a safety one. In the event the key batteries went flat, key failed or KG system failed switching the engine off could be extremely dangerous.
