I have just purchased a c240 elegance estate year 2000, I got 3 keys with the car 2 are chunky 2 button types, and one is a very thin no button type, the thin no button type is the only one that will turn in the ignition and start the car, one of the chunky ones will lock and unlock the central locking but will not turn in the ignition, and the second chunky key will not do anything at all. Any advise will be very much appreciated.

Its quite possible that the two keys that open the car have broken transponder coils

Thanks for your speedy reply, forgive my ignorance, I know what a transponder is, but not sure if that means a repair or a replacement, and more importantly the cost involved (ball park)

I used to do this, but it means buying second hand keys from Ebay and transffering the coil,,, you could open one up and see if it has fallen off

Well this is the shape of my key, but mine only has two buttons, but I suppose the coil would be the same, I suppose the first thing would be to open one and have a look.
