Have SLK230 1998 model which hesitates when kickdown is applied. It`s done about 40000 miles. After a bit of a stutter its away and "digs in".
What are the things to check out first?. Under normal acceleration it`s ok.

STAR diagnosis test is the first place to start, check to see if there are any fault codes logged. Could be the start of a failing MAF. Also check the cam magnet loom isnt contamniated with engine oil which will go the the MAF and O2 sensors.

You could pull the plug from the cam magnet, front center top of engine and see if it is oily looking
