Km/h on dash

I'm sorry if this has been covered before but WHY is there Km/h on the dash? It is VERY annoying!!! We don't use Km/h over so why is it displayed?

I've read that it can be changed, but what else can be done/changed through the computer link?

What is the cost?

European Law I believe! Why couldn't they just put the little KM No.s around the dial as they used to is beyond me. I'm guessing that you have a C Class and yes the dash can be reprogrammed there has been discussion on it here before so pls have a search around.

European Law I believe!

I seem to remember that it's actually a UN regulation that's been built into European Law and has been (in many people's view) misinterpreted by Mercedes-Benz. It goes something along the lines of "if the country uses the metric system then the speedo must permanently display kph; if the country uses the imperial system then the speedo must permanently display mph but must also be capable of displaying the speed in kph".

There was yet another thread either hear or on the MBClub where someone helpfully posted a link to the full text of the regulation regarding speedometer calibration and units. There is no requirement in UK law (which is what applies in this country!) to be able to display mph and kph simultaneously, but MB persist in their pigheaded view that it must be done that way, much to the chagrin of many UK owners. FWIW, all UK-spec R56 MINI's only display mph on their analogue speedo and the digital speedo can be switched to display mph or kph at will.

It can be made selectable via STAR (deletion of UK Mode, see my sig.) I select to have the outside temp dislplayed in place of the kph.
