I have a 2002 C180 Estate with 26,000 miles on clock. (Bought it 6,000 miles ago from a middle aged lady who used it for local shopping and bridge sessions)
The car is great but there are a few annoyances which seem to be getting worse.
First I noticed the creaking noises when in traffic jams with a hot engine. I understand I need to get the bushes in the ARB assembly checked out for that. This is quite a trivial annoyance though as I live in the country and mostly drive on open roads at decent speeds.
However, in the last couple of weeks a new noise has appeared. It seems to be coming from the engine bay right in front of the driver and sounds like a big heavy box is jumping up and down. I could describe it as knocking or perhaps thumping. It does not vary with engine revs. Again this does disappear at speed but is obvious immediately the car starts to move from cold even on flat ground.
The next service is due in a couple of weeks so I'd really like a list of things they should check. Experience tells me they won't find anything wrong without guidance :-(
Many thanks,
M
