My T reg 44k A170CDi has suffered some uncommon (never happened in my 3 previous each +125k Audis).
Has anyone had similar or know of any other commons faults/ failings on the car?

Ask the Merc garage Service departsments about known problems, and they keep as schump as an SAS recruit going through interrogation!!!

Problems have been......

Auto box valve chest failed @ 14k. Warranty repair. Took 9 weeks to obtain the part.

Road wheel bolts corroding. Replaced under warranty, but new ones not much better.

Grooning front suspension. Fixed after 3rd visit and 18 months. But still groons now and then...worse during cold days.

@ 8k Steering column changed due to cluncking noise when going over small bumps.

Both rear arm bushes failed @24k miles. Mec garage kept the car saying to dangerous to drive. Took 2 days to repair under warranty.

Nearside rear spring broke @ 38k. I repaired it myself for the cost of the spring @£25. Funny thing was they had 8 of these springs in stock..me thinks they knew about this common fault but never owned up to it.

Now headlamp flssher works intermitantly!!!

Anyone for any more?

We had a number of problems with my wife's T Reg A170.

Semi Auto gearbox packed up........a couple of relays had fried themselves.

Build quality was very poor.....lots of groans and creaks and rattles.

However, the upside was a really versatile car, that the kids loved as they could see out of it and were generally looking down on things rather than up.

So when the car came to the end of its HP agreement we got a good trade in from a main dealer and purchased a face-lifted A190.

The build quality on the newer A's is considerably better than the earlier ones.......with the A190 we have had no problems and there are no creaks and groans.

The only criticism is the ride quality which has always been rubbish and is due to the wheelbase length etc.....I see however, that next years A replacement will have a longer wheelbase than the current version, which should hopefully make things better.

Other than the ride, I still think the A is a great little car and its versatility would be sorely missed if we ever had to get rid of it.
