My speedo only reads kilometres per hour and obviously I need MPH as my mental arithmetic isn't always quick enough to fend off speed cameras.
Has anyone done this and is there a nice easy way?

Thanks

Toby.

Remember 50 mph = 80 kph
Therefore 5 mph = 8 kph
Therefore 10 mph = 16 kph
Therefore 20 mph = 32 kph
Therefore 30 mph = 48 kph
Therefore 40 mph = 64 kph
Therefore 50 mph = 80 kph
Therefore 60 mph = 96 kph
Therefore 70 mph = 112 kph

Don't really have to go any higher but obviously 100mph = 160 kph I did it for years but then I suppose there weren't so many speed cameras then. I might have a spare dial somewhere but It is probably in kph.

What model?
Is the speedo mechanical or electronic?
There are converters for both types available which then enable the instrument to read in MPH and the odometer in miles. At the point of change you need to take the odometer reading, convert this to miles (x 0.625) and note the difference as you will need to deduct this from the total reading in future to obtain the correct mileage.
I can point you in the right direction when I know the type of speedo.

Hello,

After looking at the speedo in my 280E I notice that it runs up to 260kph/160mph unlike the one in my 230.

If I can find the speedo head from a 280/300/320 that has ASR fitted, would i be able to just change the dial without having to worry about recalibration etc. I know the speedo will still rack up in kilometres but that doesn't bother me.

Any advice on how easy that will be and also if anyone has a speedo head from an ASR equipped 280/300/320 I may well wish to talk with you!!!

Thanks

Toby

There are replacement dials available which are relatively inexpensive. Try Steve Gilroy at Evolution Motorsport in Southampton 02380 710077, they convert imports to comply with UK regs.
Just a thought but if you have a dual-scale speedo why do you want to change?

Thanks Ian

I'll give that company a try. The speedo in my 500E is KPH only so I'd rather have mph showing so I xcan slow down for the cameras.

Cheers

Toby
