Hey Guys,

I will have to get a set of new tyres. I have 225/40/18 on front and 255/35/18 on rear. Currently I am driving GoodYear F1 Eagle Assymetric 3 on the rear which is an amazing tyre. Up to now I have done about 35 000km and still have about 2/2.5mm of thread. On front I have Continentals SportContact 5 and they are OK on front however having them on the rear, car eat them in just 15 000km. I am not driving as maniac, I like more dynamic drive but I am minding my tyres.

I have priced up two sets, one of Kumhos and one of Goodyears. Kumho Ecsta PS71 full set will cost me 368EUR where Goodyears will cost me 506EUR. I have the same Kumho tyres on our W215 CL600 and they are good, grippy on wet and dry. Really good braking performence and handling, however I cannot say much about the wear as W215 is not driven much, weekend car. They also have good rim protection edge. Do you have any suggestions? I don't want to get Hankook as they were very bad and quick. Dunlop also have a quick wear.

The Goodyear is an excellent tyre.

I use Uniroyal RS3, they wear quite fast but are considerably less expensive

This is the thing, I do not want something that will wear out too quick, as I am doing about 40 000km a year.

Got Kumhos on my CL, wearing well. Had them on my Legacy GTB in the past, handles well in wet and dry, not noisy, and as you say good braking performance, I’m happily sticking with them - and enjoy the €140 of wine/beer

Yes I know we have Assymetric 5 however currently they are only available in 225/40/18 and I cannot find in 255/35/18 :D I am willing to give a chance to Kumhos on my W204 :-D

I heard about them however the difference in the price is not that much so I would prefer to pay extra 30EUR and get GY

Can't even get Assy 3 in my sizes (nor RS3 :().

Not decided what I'll go for.
OP is wear is a major criteria I'd look at Michelin.

Did he hit a pothole? Looks like two cracks in the wheel below! - or maybe a manufacture fault? Take it back to tyre shop and get them to send it for testing, if faulty manufacturer will send a new one.

I ran Kumho KL71 tyres on my Defender.

Excellent tyres and far quieter than the tread pattern would suggest.
Only complaint was they wore out in 30k miles....

They're just water cleaning stains , look like cracks though .

No pot holes were entertained .

He wasn't alone in the experience either .

A chap happy with his protested but a month later said he wished he listened as his unexpectedly developed a bulge .

In all fairness probably a faulty batch , however we won't be buying them as it's lives at stake here .

Hard to say, on our CL we have the second set of Kumhos and they are all fine, grip and handling is a lot better than on Bridgestones. Next time I might go for Michelins or GY on this car.l but so far Kumhos were great, cannot complain.

Khumo for quietness
Goodyear for noise
I know because we run both tyres ;)

On my CL I run a mix of Rainsport 3 (front) and Hankooks Ventus S1 on the rear (can’t get RS3 in my odd size). Both are excellent. Wear performance isn’t great, but I want these for wet and dry grip and they’re both epic in that regard. Plus at £100 per corner I don’t mind changing them out a little more often than more expensive rubber.
