Lacquer repair

Anyone know if it's possible to repair cracked lacquer. My SEL has a centre console box with two large, age related cracks. Is it possible to remove the lacquer yourself, or is a job best left to the professionals? http://i16.tinypic.com/4pdt6rl.jpg

This depends on if you can spray, these are finished in 2 component clear lacquer, firms that do this are not that expensive.

You could strip it and finish it in clear laquer,with an aerosol, about 10 coats, but this is not so hard and marks easily

Thanks Television. You are a goldmine of information. If I were to strip it myself, Would a normal paint stripper do the job?
