HI, could anyone tell me if a E 300 TD ('98) has a Lambda Sensor, and if so would a faulty one cause the car to idle badly?Have already replaced fuel lines and air mass sensor, but made no difference.Starting to run out of ideas (and hair)so hoping someone might have some usefull ones.

The EGR valve is often over looked, this device only opens when cruising.
When they get coked up they normally stick partly open as the return spring gets weak and that will make the Idle rough. Hardly worth cleaning. should be replaced at 65k, if you have one you could unscew it and see if it is closed.

Malcolm

Might be wrong but I do not think the lambada would do this, that is more to do with protction af the cat, If you have a new cat, always change it

Thanks television, just one question where will I locate the EGR valve?

You have three components you could check.

The actual EGR valve is on top of the exhaust manifold towards the rear it is vacuam operated .
The vacuam transducer is on the body corner of wing and bulkhead
the change over valve exhaust gas recirculation is also there

At idle the EGR valve must be closed

Hope this helps Malcolm

A little more help for you, there is a pipe that connects the ERG valve to the inlet manifold, clamping this pipe would blank the valve. if the idle changes speed its faulty

Excessive CO exhaust emissions through ERG failure can lead to cat failure, if this is the problem do not blank it off
