Lambda sensors for a W202 C240?

A recent diagnostic test has revealed that 2 of the 4 (!) lambda sensors have failed.

Mercedes want £105.18 each for them (supply only). Can anyone recommend a cheaper supplier?

GSF don't seem to list them and neither do Euro (at least not for a C240. Are C230 ones the same?)

Thanks,

Steve

Hello Veed,

What symptoms were you experiencing before you had the diagnostic done? I've booked mine in for a check on Friday. Whenever i'm stuck in traffic or at traffic lights, the car shakes ever so slightly, it's getting on my nerves now so i'm gonna have it checked. From what i've read, i think it may be the lambda sensors. I also think it's not performing to it's maximum potential. I have a 2001 CLK 200k.

Cheers,

LS.

The symptoms sound quite similar to yours. I have noticed a slight juddering at idle, and at higher speeds there just doesn't seem to be as much power as there should be. It's just a bit "flat".

I had the MAF sensor replaced about a month or so ago, and that did clear up a few problems - erratic/reluctant gear changes etc, but it still wasn't quite right. Plus, the warranty runs out in October so I wanted to have a diagnostic done before then so I could get whatever repairs done that it needed. The irony is that the Lambda sensors aren't covered

I took it to an independent specialist who only charged £30 for the diagnostic - Mercedes quoted twice that!

Does it definatley have 4 and have they all failed. I only had one replaced on my E240, together with the MAS. Solved my problems anyway.

I haven't checked the car itself to count them, but it certainly appears that there are 4 (Mercedes parts dept checked their system against my chassis number and it listed 4 sensors)

There are 2 (one left, and one right) before the cat, and then 2 more after.

The diagnostics said that the LHS front and rear ones had failed.

Did you purchase a patern part MAF from GFS, if so look at replacing the MAF with a genuine bosch unit, I had the same problem, and spend over £100.00 on two MAF'S in two years untill the penny dropped about cheap parts from china, which may be ok for run of the mill cars, but mercedes electronics dont like non origional parts fitting, (patern parts are ok for the suspension, breaks, and non electronic componments!

My front O2 sensor failed about 12 months ago so priced one from MB £150, looked on ebay and found supplier for £15 so bought and fitted, old unit had burnt out the internal heater. Wiring was the same, two black and two white, only thing I had to do was cut off the original plug and connect using crimp fittings (this also allowed the oil in the loom to drain out due to faulty camshaft wiring, blocker now fitted). Six thousand miles later, and two mot tests, and still going well.
