just took my 2001 reg clk to have the rust around the arches looked at lancaster of witham in essex. the assesor came out and said before even looking at the car that i havent got rust. he looked at the car from about ten feet away and said nope not covered mate thats corrosion not rust lol. i pointed out that the car was only 8 years old and that all servicing was done by mb dealers. last service in oct last year. he said still not covered nothing we can do bye. what a great attitude to take with a potential new customer. needless to say my car is due a service within the next 6 months and i was holding a brochure on wheels and accesories in my hand. i wont be getting my car serviced there or be spending the grand i have saved for a nice set of wheels there either. i wont even be recomending them to the hundreds of mb owners on here.... rant over thanks for reading this post ,,,, i feel better now

it was the guys attitude that upset me didnt even take a close look just brushed me off

Maybe you should of asked for the boss, better still try again at another MB dealership.

Hi Mossie. Sorry to hear you have had this response. I had 2 lots of rust dealt with on a MY 2000 W202 by MB Stratford upon Avon, absolutely without quibble. At the first visit the young man took a variety of pics with his cellphone camera and asked me to return by appointment. At the second visit paint thickness was measured, but approval came readily.

It is all too easy for these guys you met to say no. That probably sees quite a few people off and puts the onus on the rest of us to revisit the problem and persevere. They don't seem to realise the damage they do to their reputation, far less what they lose on repeat business, reference sales, servicing work, and of course the mention they are bound to get at the pub and the golf course.

Worth trying elsewhere. If you meet reluctance again, ask them to specify which part of the MB policy precludes them from fixing it for you!

went to lakeside merc today and guy there was very helpful. he said there is two criteria you must meet firstly how old is your car? 2001 i said. thats box one ticked. q2 was do you have full mb service history? yes thats that box ticked you are covered for 30 years the guy said. is your car here and can i see it? i showed him the affected area and he said come back on wednesday at 2 o/c and we will make out a report and see what we can do for you. not holding my breath but a much better response and also a very informative chat with the guy. i,m keeping my fingers crossed and will post what happens,,,,,, watch this space

well the nice man at lakeside took lots of pics and checked logbook etc even measured paint thickness. he said the decision is not his but he wished me luck and gave me his card, i even got a really nice cup of coffee while i waited. now thats how to treat a merc owner isnt it, i,m not holding my breath but if the answer is no then i will appeal so this is only the begining
