Well l may soon be in a position to replace my two cars, currently a CLK220 CDI and a SLK230 petrol. I'm not in a desperate rush to change either, but with my low mileage it would make sense to replace two cars with one. Not many recent cars float my boat but the SLK/SLC does and as I'm single, l don't need a 4 seater.
So my thoughts are like this. I don't think a diesel is the right thing to get due to a fair number of short runs and associated DPF issues. So petrol it is. I hate stop start so anything l buy must be able to have that bypassed, perhaps by pressing a button on each start up. I'm OK with that. I want something with good performance and great reliability, l've heard some horror stories about some of the later engines and there's no real issues with the M111 engine in my current SLK.
So what should l consider buying ? Automatic is a must.
Thanks in advance.

SL a bit too big for my car port, so SLK/C needed. Are all the petrol engines OK or are there some to avoid?

They didn’t make these for very long with the normally aspirated V8 5.5ltr engine. Get one whilst you still can…

I'm afraid the insurance cost might kill me. For some reason it already costs a small fortune to insure my CLK220 diesel and I've recently shopped round and renewed two days ago. 3 litres then l think !

You might be surprise, my 911 is cheaper than the SLK (both on business miles policies) - You’re a very long time dead (just had someone I know drop dead at 58…:() you can always earn more money and there aren’t any pockets in a shroud…

Take one for a test drive and see if you still want a 3.0 - the only reason I haven’t bought one is I have the 911 as well.

It’s a 3.0 V6 bi-turbo built by Mercedes rather than AMG - it’s slower than the 55 and less power :( I’d go for the V8

Sometimes I don't know how the insurance companies work out their premiums, the Money Pit is £36 more to insure the the SL55 o_O:confused:

You can get the M278 / M157 as a bi-turbo and tune it silly, just not in the SLK…That is the M152 version

tunable means you got the wrong car in the first place.
