leak from alloy wheel

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi i have S class 2003 53 reg and recently was having problems with 1 tyre constantly loosing air presure so took it to my local tyre shop and while i was present they found the leak was from the alloy rim on the inside so dismissing negligence on my part it is obviously a manufacturing fault in the casting.so they tried to repair it but now have come back and said it was not a sucessful repair.
I have been in touch with my local MB dealer who are saying as they did not look at it in the rirst instant they cant help because its been tempered with,my point is i thought it must be the tyre but had no idea the rim can ever leak.
Any suggestion.

Go back and ask for details of how to contact MB direct, and diplomatically ask if they could provide you in writing their reasons for attempting to fob you off, and try and get to speak to the head honcho...

Not unheard of on alloy wheels. Corrosion can cause leaks around the bead area. A good tyre shop can clean and seal the inside edges.
It's not a manufacturing defect as such, moisture can get in via compressed air and set up the corrosion.

I don't get this either.
I have seen leaks around the run edge - but as whitenemesis say, this can be cleaned and resealed by a decent fitter. I've had lots of fun with a Jeep cherokee and it often took a couple of attempts before the damn thing stayed up for more than a week, but it was always sorted in the end. The wheels really needed refinishing but I didn't want to spend the money.

Any other leaks would imply a weakness in the actual wheel rim structure, rendering the wheel unsafe so surely it must be a simple rim seal issue?

Leak in alloy wheel

Hi
Many thanks to all members who have replied yes it is definatly leaking through the rim on the inside a tiny pinhead call it corrosion or (metal fatigue) but it is nowhere near the rim end but almost 2 inches below it.
