Just come back from another 1000 mile round trip to Scotland in my 84 280SE. Heavy loads and bad roads! Got back to find a mist of oil spray on the back of the car. It's clean and therefore not engine oil. It does n't smell like brake fluid or gear box oil. All I can assume is that it is the strut leaking. It's not clear where the leak is as the oil's every where. It did take some bottoming out on the bad roads, to the extent its damaged the exhaust too!!

Is it common for the struts to fail?

Is it a DIY job?

Any help appreciated!

Thanks
