Does any one have any good suggestions or product recommendations as to how to remove ingrained dirt from the leather upholstery on a Merc.

I?ve tried MB?s own leather product, but its more of a conditioner than a cleaner in my view

The combination of the light grey leather and 7 year old lad doesn?t make the best combination for keeping the interior spotless

Light leather.

I just use the stuff I got from Jaguar as I have the light leather in both my Coupe and my Jag.
There is a firm advertising in the Jaguar enthusiast magazine with a picture of a 1962 leather seat renovated by their stuff. Never tried it though as my seats are quite nice and clean.

I'm not sure how the little holes in the MB seats will react though.

Hi all :D

I have heard some rave reviews about Flash Eraser getting textured cream leather back up to scratch - not yet tried it myself (bought some pads today) - allegedly it is the pad that does all the work, no nasty chemicals. That said I think a small test area is in order first, rapidly followed by a healthy dose of leather conditioner.

To get ingraind dirt of use multipurpose cleaner mixed with water rub it on with a small soft brush then wipe it of again with a soft towel that should do the trick

SWARFEGA neat on a cloth, you've seen what it does to clean hands and the results on leather are incredible!!!!! Trust me Ive cleaned many Range Rover leather interiors with it and the result is great.

rot stitches

When Connelly Bros were around they gave out instruction that said, do not use scented or unknown soaps when cleaning seats, this can cause the stitching to rot. Used to be easy a few years ago, Train to Euston, walk round to the back to Connelly Ltd with your snip of leather. They mixed it on the spot. It cost £6 to do a XJ6 in the 70's

What's this stuff I've got like?

Meguiar's Gold Class with Aloe Vera and UV protectors.

I haven't had any problems with it so far, then again, I haven't opened it yet.

I have used the Gliptone products (mentioned by Silver Arrow) on my last 3 cars, all to great effect. They also do, leather dyes, if you have any scuff/wear marks that need sorting, excellent results.

Why not?

Tom.
Saddle soap was made first in the 1800's for use in tanning or curing leather, not cleaning, its very alkaline like all soaps, and is the opposite of what you would use to clean upholstery, ok for mucky boots though!

Appreciate that info Steve.
I've been wasting my time then using this for nearly 50 years, when every car built used leather for the upholstery! Such is (my) life :).

Saddle-soap is not used for tanning leather - tannic acid is, I've learned.

Having recently read an article in Auto trader, they tested about 15 leather cleaners. They tested for cleaning ability, conditioning, leaving the leather feeling nourished and also noted if it left a nasty scent...Mer leather cleaner and conditioner came out tops closely followed by Meguirs, the ello Vera one....Of course, I bought the mer one, but having black leather cant really comment on the cleaning ability but it looks good.

Perhaps the test did not include Sadle soap. Most cars in the RREC use it, I have used it sinse the 60s. It will soften leather that's been stored for 50 years that was like cardboard. When I use it on my SL the whole garage smells of quality leather, Its a nature product taken from the animals that gave the leather in the first place, its stops the leather from creasing in the same place, You can keep your little bottles of white cream. Take a good look at some tack that's been looked after.

Used it on my two last weekend. Can't see any difference on the Merc but then it's 12 months old and still clean anyway, so used it more as a preventative/protective measure. It did have a noticable effect on the cracks in the jeeps leather though and the seats certainly feel more supple as a result. I also gave the wheel a good going over as that was getting tacky. Tricky on the merc as it clogs up the holes in the seats so I used the gunk clogged cloth and just wiped over them instead of the blathering I did on the jeep. Hopefully some of it will have gone across.
