Dear all,

My grandfather, 87 years of age (!), owns a 3-year-old E-class 320, but is going away for 7 weeks on a cruise. He wonders whether the battery is likely to last that length of time, whether there is any way of disconnecting it, and if it would be advisable to charge it before starting the car on his return.

Any advice would be very much appreciated,
Thanks in advance,
James Boulter

The car will have a lower drain on the battery if left locked. 7 weeks is a long time. to charge it from a standard charger it is better to disconnect, the other fairly safe way is to start the car, turn on rear window demister, join up battery charger leave the car running to reach normall temperture then turn engine off. A good battery should be ok for three weeks.
