Okay everyone I will try to explain the way I replaced my LED lights inside the door handles on my C Class, firstly you will need a 30, 20 & 27 Torx drivers. Starting with a long Torx T20 driver, then as per picture you need to remove the rubber gromet then insert the T20 driver and loosen the screw it will stop after around 5 turns, don’t worry this screw won’t come out and drop down inside the door.
I started on my front near side door first basically this was in case anything went wrong, plus to learn as I went along.
Once this is complete you will need to pull the door handle out and remove a small piece of black plastic then pull the door handle back and outwards until it’s removed, you then see 2 x Torx screws, under where the handle was, these need to be loosened 4 turns, don’t remove completely.
Then you will need to remove the 3 x Torx from the door lock completely
Then open the door wide, the next step is to remove the 2 x Torx bolts from the door arm rest, )handle) once these have been removed, use a strong trim removal tool (Plastic) and prise under the bottom of the door panel and pull outwards, then remove completely, I had to get a little physical with mine but don’t worry it won’t break., once this is free you will need to disconnect the wires that are attached to it, i.e. speakers and window switch the plugs on mine are a beige colour for speakers and the windows are blue these are simple connectors and straight forward to disconnect, there is also a cable that goes into the door handle lever this just needs pulling up to remove, it’s all simple.
Once its disconnected place to one side as this will be needed very shortly.
When you look at the inside of the door you will notice there’s 2 x rubber grommets about 30mm wide, these need to be removed, then hook up the 2 x Blue plugs for the window switch, turn the ignition on then press the window down button until you can see 2 x screws in the slots you removed the rubber gromets from, stop the window at this point, this is the service mode, now remove the 2 x blue plugs and place panel out of the way.
Carefully loosen the 2 x screws whilst window is in the service mode, be careful not to remove completely, I did mine 3 x full turns.
Once loosened grip the window with both hands and pull upwards, once up I used some masking tape to hold it in place, going from inside to the outside.
When I did the second door, I removed the window completely as I found I had more access, plus the window received a good clean once out, it’s up to you what you want to do, the window goes back in easily.
You’ll notice about 15 Torx screws holding the inner panel in place, these all need to be removed, once removed you can drop this inner panel down enough to reach your hand in and up to locate the LED, there is a clip with 2 x wires going to the LED just unclip and pull off, then pull the LED out and replace, I found a head torch came in useful at this stage.
If you’re lucky enough to have small hands you’ll find it easy, but when you’ve got shovel hands like mine, you’ll end up with some skin missing on a few parts of your hands, like I did.
Once the old LED has been removed the new one simply clips into place, connect the plug onto it and reassemble the door parts.
My offer still stands, if anyone feels they would like to come to mine I can assist, as some people find these daunting, or just don’t like DIY
