Hi , I have a 2012 C class with Bi-Xenon headlights that are brilliant. I am thinking about buying a 2018 c250 that has Led High performance headlights.
Would these be better that the Bi-Xenon or the same, . The 2019 model has the multi beam Led headlights with automatic diming. Has anyone any views on these.

Only that LED light units cost £1000+ when the bulb goes !

The automatic led lights on my 2016 CLS were amazing!
They made night driving so much easier for me.
One of the several things I miss after selling it.

Was saying that to my wife while returning home (in the Old B-Class) from visiting my son on Wednesday. SL 400 (also 2016) headlights were awesome with the black box around the car ahead etc.

Thanks for your replies. What about the LED “High Performace” that are fitted on pre-2019 cars. Are they just as bright?

Takes me back to an old family hand me down Mk 1 Focus which eventually ended up with my youngest daughter. They were giving me a lift one pitch black December night out in the sticks and I mentioned it would be a good idea to use the high beam as the dipped weren’t up to the job and the reply came back that the main beam was already on lol - the car was traded in the next month.

I must admit that I’m quite pleased with the intelligent Bi-xenons on the S212 especially the auto-dip facility very impressive and it’s old school you can change the bulbs

I also had a Mk 1 focus, exactly as you described. The lights were like glow worms.
My Mecedes Bi-xenons/auto dimming are great. I hope the LED Headlights on the 2018 Merc are just as good. Shame they don't have the Auto-dimming facility.

Made me think of the days when the more the engine revved, the better the lights were.
If it was an older Lotus Elan, the head lights would try to hide away as the car rev'd. lol Especially when it's reservoir was a little frilly.

When I first got my Cavalier Coupe, many moons ago, I wondered why the world got darker when my head lights were on. When I looked, 1 bulb was a halogen 55/60 and the other was a tungsten 45/50 (?)
2 halogen bulbs made all the difference.

I had a Ford Consul with a Duel Fuel pump, the windscreen wipers worked of the Vacuum from the pump. Going up hill they would almost stop and going down the hill they would go like the clappers

The LED headlights in my W213 E-Class were absolutely excellent and they were the standard LED’s

Sold - 2021 CLA 35 Premium.
I don't know what LED high performance is but my 2020 car had multi beam led that was fantastic
The light unit is made of a number of individual LEDs that at night are always on main beam, but individual leds deactivate when oncoming headlights are detected
It really is amazing to watch.

My 2018 car has the “Intelligent Lighting” system LED with auto-dimming etc and the lights are amazing. (Until they go wrong @Wighty )

Was that an optional extra, I thought they only fitted the LED High Performance ones to 2018 model. (unless it's standard on the Premium plus)
Yours must be the multi beam system to have the auto dimming.
This is mine.

2010 A207 E500 (the Summer Car and Winter Garage Queen)!
Hello Brax57. My E class W213 (2017) has the multibeam LED lights, I think they were a Premium Plus option. They are astoundingly good. The clarity is beyond any car light I've ever had. They also adapt the leds depending on the driving conditions etc. Equally, the lights in my other MB (a 2010 A207) are Bi-Xenon and also excellent - no complaints whatsoever. Agreed with others mind you, either car to replace a headlamp whether xenon or LED is eye watering! Certainly WELL over a grand each side! But the LEDs are basically the devils work - really very very good.
