Afternoon everyone, your help. Just had MoT on 2017 GLC 220d. Advisories on tyres, so no problem there. Biggest concern is LED turn signals colour has faded. On checking in the dark, instead of being bright orange, the LED is dusty pink !! Being an LED, I'd have thought these would last longer than 5 years. Has anyone had this situation? Can it be repaired? As it seems to be part of the headlight, a replacement is nearly £950 !!!
Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks to you all in advance.

Are your headlights thee ones where the DRL is actually also the indicator? If so, is the DRL working ok?

LEDs changing colour can happen, if there’s a phosphor bleed-out. All LEDs are blue, the colour difference one sees is all down to the dye pack in the phosphor. Green, white, red etc they all start out as blue.

No they can’t be repaired- well technically yes they can, but no one is offering such a service that I’m aware of.

Thanks for the info. Could this problem lead to an MoT failure in the future? If so, MB have got some serious questions to answer!!!!!

Yes they are, the DRL is working ok and the fault is only in the nearside headlight. As its working apart from the stated problem, could there be a fault with the front SAM unit ?

Yes they can, and no they don’t- fully integrated LED lamps should last the design life of the car. They shouldn’t need replacing. That yours have doesn’t invalidate the design.

Thanks. Would you suggest a trip to my local MB dealer and speak to the service manager about the best solution?

You can always try, but, my 2017 SLC with only 10,000 miles required a new LED headlight at a cost of £1000. Mercedes were not interested in any form of goodwill at all.

My C Class DRL was not working, it only required a new LED headlight control unit, nothing to do with the front SAM, which was about £250
