Left Headlight Stays On After Locking - 2017 E-Class Estate W213

I'm looking for some advice regarding an issue with my 2017 Mercedes E-Class 220 Estate W213. When I lock the car, all the lights initially turn off as expected. However, after about a minute, the left-side dipped headlight comes back on and stays on. This happens regardless of whether the lights are set to auto or manual, and there are no fault warnings. I've tried adjusting the indicator stalk in case it was related, but the problem persists. Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this?

Hi, welcome to the forum.
This is a new one.
Is it just the front headlamp or does a rear light come on as well?

Sounds like you've activated the "Park" light function - but you said the indicators aren't on?
Parking light on the 213 is on the light switch rather than the indicators, so I'm guessing as the OP has said it happens on both manual and auto it's not that. Water in the SAM? Does the car have multi-beam LED or standard? Kinda sounds like it's got to be a control unit / SAM issue.

Thank you for your responses, only the left dip headlight come about a minute after the car is locked, the rear lights are out. I believe they are a standard LED headlight. Do you know where the SAM unit is for the left headlight, and does any have a wiring diagram for the headlights?

Last night, I turned on the left parking light and locked the car, but the dipped headlights didn't come on. Do you know where the headlight controller is located? Is there one on each side?

I also tried downloading a workshop manual from Easymanual, but it wasn't able to do so, they did send me a PDF manual, but it was not helpful. Can anyone recommend a good workshop manual or let me know where I can find a wiring diagram for the headlights and related modules?

There is a controller on the bottom of each headlight that actuates the LED part, this has likely failed on yours.

If its not LED and Xenon, then the front sam suggestion above is accurate, this is the fuse box in the engine bay.

Dear All,

I've finally replaced the left SAM headlamp controller (A2139005711) and successfully resolved the issue of the left headlight turning on a few minutes after the car is locked.

I inspected the headlight for cracks and the SAM unit for water or moisture ingress. Both were completely dry, as shown in the attached image. However, since the SAM unit has been replaced before, I'm wondering if there might be a condensation problem, especially considering the slight condensation I noticed on the lower part of the headlight when the issue occurred. If the issue occurs again, I'll replace both the headlight and SAM unit. Only time will tell.

Given that the SAM module controls the static LED dipped, main beam, side light, and indicator, it's an incredibly complex component and may experience reliability issues in the future with these designs. I could not see any issues to cause this fault, if I had the software I would like to flash the memory to see if it cured the fault.>

Best regards,

Oobals

The SAM is the fuse box module.

Pictured module is headlamp control module which are common.

Glad you got the issue resolved!

NB some need to be programmed and some don't, for other users.
