since owning the car (5 years) I have thought my blower was a bit feeble compared to other cars. It does work at each speed setting but the fastest is still fairly weak.

Is this normal?
Is there a way of improving it?

The main problem is that although I have ice cold air (frost forms on the centre vents!) the flow is not enough to cope with very hot weather.

I have replaced the dust filter and had the dash off to check for any grunge in the heater box etc but nothing at all.

any ideas anyone?

regulator

Thanks so much for your post

the fan motor has been replaced about 4 years ago but dont know about the reg.

Is the regulator a separate item ?
where do I find it?
is there a quick test to the theory , eg bridging something out of the circuit to get full power?

I have never had to do one in a W124, but JB did one in his W210. Maybe the 124 requires going in from the wiper assembly.

The 210 is easy enough, I'm sure JB will confirm that.

Remove panel on passenger footwell.
Remove electric plug on bottom of heater housing.
Remove the screws and take plasic cover off.
Then you should see regulator.
Remove two spade connections.
Undo two more screws & you have your regulator.

Think a new one costs a little over a ton plus vat

I don't know how this will relay to a w124, but am sure some of the guys do.

As far as I know the centre is only a ventilator. Well in the two I owned anyway.

I suppose there wouldn't be any point in having a seperate left and right temp control if hot air came out the centre:lol:.

Just a thought Marchie

centre vent

On the later models eg 94/95 the centre vent blows warm air from centres if the a/c is in automatic mode and the controller calls for it. If you are in E/C mode with the a/c off then it defaults to fresh air only - the idea being you can keep a warm car but have fresh to direct at your face to keep alert (smart these MB engineers).

On the older models I think pascal is right and the centres were only used for the fresh air.

thanks for you info both, I will dive into my CDs now and check out blower removal.

Sorry for getting a little off topic Keith. Think you get heat from centre on the older models too, if they have Climate.

Best of luck with the regulator removal.
