From bitter personal experience, I would ask for the Key Damage Report on any used Mercedes before making a decision to spend money with MB.

My previous car has 43 separate warranty items (including major items such as gearbox, torque converter, turbo, air mass sensor etc etc) replaced in 18 months before Mercedes bought the car back under their buyback policy. I was originally told that the car would be stripped down by their technical experts to see what went wrong.

Dealer told me that the car was sold to another dealership without any remedial action being by MB!

I have a good relationship with my local Merc servicing department. Whenever I have bought a car I have given them the VIN number and asked what warranty work had been done on it. Anything major, I've walked away. With 43 warranty items, I wouldn't have even entertained the idea. :(

If dealer knew about the fault within 14 days of selling it (ie when did you tell the about it), you can look into invoking the sale of goods act - a car which was not of merchantable quality was sold to you. They have 2 options: Fix it or refund your money. "They all do that sir" is not a licence to pass on sheds.

I have done this twice successfully (one was for a very expensive car and one was for a cheap one so value doesn't come into it).

Just make a note of all the converstions / phone calls etc you've had with the dealer about the problem before offering them the chance to sort it out.

And only deal with the sales manager / owner.

It doesn't matter now.....the fault I had was with the abs/esp warning light on, I fitted a new brake light myself yesterday because I will not take back to him unless absolutely nessecary!.

Then again there only 2 weeks left of the "warranty" but Iv'e probably make it void anyway by doing this myself but I dont care. Iv'e been using a guy for the last 7 years for my car's (all sorts) he's a one man band and is ****** good, very straight to the point no frills/lie's but good...old school!.

But someone on here gave a no for someone called T J O'Niel in Glasgow so I suppose if John cant fix he will tell me and I'll go there...simple!...it's very bad when you cant/dont trust the stealer you get thing's from.....oh well.
