Relatively new B Class owner (B Class B180 CDI Sport 1.5). Car in for first MOT since we got it.

Failed on license plate bulb but garage has said they can't replace because they are the LED ones! Presumably they cannot source them.

Question, does it have to be an LED bulb or will it take a filament style one also? I notice all the LED ones available at Halfords are for interior or off-road use only.

I'd definitely use a trim tool rather than a screwdriver so you don't break the plastic lens but the below should help - looks like a normal filament bulb

Just did this on mine (2016), both had failed but was in fact due to corrosion on the terminals on the car side. All you need to do is pop out the led lens out using a flat screwdriver and either replace the whole unit (led is attached to the lens) or use a small file to clean up the terminals.
