My W210 still had the original Mercedes exhaust at ~130K miles when I sold it. Apart from welding the rear hanger back onto the back box it was still perfect.
Genuine MB exhaust systems are long lived if car treated carefully. My W202 (W reg.) still on original system at 115,000 miles. Expect around a 10 year life.
also depends on the use of the car , mine spent alot of time sitting around in a garage so when it was used and parked up for a couple of weeks the moisture sits in the system and rots it from the inside out , it needs a new system very soon as the middle box is on its last legs.
Yes this would be correct, if we filled our petrol cars say with ½ diesel now and the it could help on these, only snag being that they will not start from cold, and you cant see to reverse through the whit smoke
Hi,
C230K 125,000 Miles, only have had to have the gearbox mounting bracket rewelded.
C43 120,000 Miles, appears completely original nothing in history to say its been replaced either.
not really no ,especially if you park the car on grass! , it will shorten the life of all the cars underneath as the moisture creeps into everything , a good dry garage will always be better for a car as its not exposed to the elements.
It really depends on how you drive the car!
If you do a lot of short runs to shops / school or short journeys to work, the exhaust does not get hot enough to evaporate the acidic moisture in the system.
If you do long runs / motorway driving then your system will last a lot longer!
On my C250td I had to replace / repair the exhaust last year with about 210k on the clock, hope this does her, her day! I was lucky in that I managed to get someone to replace most of the exhaust and use the original cat in the rebuild! Cost from memory about 300GBP, compared with other quotes up on 500 - 600GBP.
Cheers,
P.S. it had been patched a few times before needing to be replaced.
I wasn't so lucky, bought my C250TD privately 89,000 on clock. 2 days later the box end fell off, had rusted through. Got the back part of the exhaust from memory cost £90 I think.
Car now has 127,000 miles no other major problems apart wear and tear - new air condensor cost £200 app and indiactor light fell out cost £18.
Had the car 3 years very happy
