Hi, l own a C220 cdi 2008 from new, just wondering what milage and lifespan l can expect from it?

Many, thanks, l was thinking about changing it as it has 79000 miles on it, but as l am approaching 60 l don't now see the need to change it.

250k to 500k depending how well you maintain it.
Don’t forget it will need a good blast on the autobahn/motorway every couple of weeks to give it a clean out, something in the region of 140 kph (90 mph) for half an hour or some nice A roads in GB at a constant higher rev range.
Drive it, in other words, don’t just cruise around, as this is what causes a car to clog up and become troublesome.
IMHO of course.

Change the oil depending on use , plus that duplex chain will see you right .

As you've had it from new you know how it's been driven/looked after. If you've neglected it and thrashed it get rid now. If you've cherished it keep on treating it well and it will last you out. Be sure to change the gearbox oil. Wighty will be along to tell you how.

Hi Hugh and welcome to the forum. 79k miles is just nicely run in so it should give you a good few years yet if you can find a decent Mercedes indie to look after it for you. That said, I did change my 2010 car when it was eight years old and 67k miles because I didn’t want it to become problematic and I was over 60 then! That’s the problem with this forum, you read about all the problems and it starts to worry you about your car

Welcome to the forum.

If I owned a car of that era 2007-9 and I was happy with the car I’d keep it, the engine is relatively bullet proof if properly maintained and since you have owned the car from new you are lucky enough to have a complete history - enjoy the car and keep the money in the bank newer cars don’t drive any better unless of course you buy a W213

If it’s an auto box , get the ATF and filter changed every 40 k miles (should have been done at 37,500 miles so is due again now )
Might as well get the rear diff oil changed if she’s a keeper (cheap job)
Some C class have been having trouble with rear subframe rust , get someone to spray a rust proofed like waxoyl or Dinitrol into the rear subframe holes and all over it .
Say where you live , by updating your user details ,members can then recommend a good MB Indy who knows these cars and can get any work done correctly.
The car will be run in at about 100k

Just broken in the engine, only things needing attention beyond regular service will be rubbers (mounts, bushes hoses) and brake parts.
Coolant change at 15 years or 8.
Make sure the gbox flud is changed every 40k

Biggest variable would be your attitude and view of "economical repair". If the moment it needs a 1k repair and is worth 950 you say "it is uneconomical repair" and buy something else then it's probably not got very much longer left. If at that moment you say "well for 1k I know everything else with it is good and i like it so I'll spend more than it is worth as it is worth more than that to me and will provide me good transport for the next few years and not have other unknown problems/depreciation like a replacement might" then indefinitely.

There are plenty of 70s Mercedes still providing taxi services the third world over, I very much doubt they are serviced as suggested in this thread...

I don't usually buy cars with under 80k miles. I normally run them to 200k.

79k on an 08 c220 - mine has about 108k and decent service record, runs sweet as you like, no intention of changing it in what's left of my lifetime - I'm approaching 70! I'll take issue with Wighty about ATF change - our cars have the 5 speed autobox which is theoretically sealed for life, the 37.5k mile ATF change is for later cars (had a big row with the MB Ashford service manager on this point when I bought the car from them). However, I had mine done in Jan 2019 at approx. 100k miles - it had not been changed ever prior to that! Did not make a noticable difference to the box, but it's peace of mind.
