Light under interior mirror

I just pruchased a 2000 E320 Wagon that has the chromatic interior mirror. After looking throughout the Owner's Manual, I still have a question that I cannot answer.

Underneath the interior mirror, there is a small yellow light which illuminates whenever the auto is started. What is this light and is there anyway to turn it off?

It i snot noticeable during the daytime (which is why I didn't notice it during the test drives). When driving at night, it can be a little bit distracting. Perhaps I just need to get used to driving it at night.

Isn't this the garage door indicator? My manual (C200 - 2004) says to reset you need to hold down button 2 and 4 for 20 seconds. Perhaps this will work ?

I only have 3 garage buttons and my manula does not mention this LED light at all. I will try different combinations to see if the light resets.

I believe this is what the literature referes to as the "Interior light pack". This is standard on the Elegance and Avantgarde, but an optional extra on the Classic for just £59.57 + VAT (£70 inc) (price & spec based on the 2002 brochure)

Call me picky, but £70 for a yellow bulb does seem a little excessive, but hey we are talking MB here.

There is no way of turning it off directly that I know, but I guess if you can get into the mirror housing, disableing it shouldn't be hard. Failing that, a bit of black insulation tape over the lamp would fix ytour problem and you could always peel it off when you come to sell the car.
