Lights-On Buzzer Problem

Hi again
This is the last problem I have with my 85 190E.

The Lights-On Buzzer doesn't work.
I read some threads and I think the buzzer (or buzzer relay?) should either be behind the Instrument dash, or in the driver's footwell near the bonnet release. My car is RHD, so the bonnet release in still on the LH side (Passenger for me).
So it would still be on the LH side, correct?

OR Is it behind the dash? Would anyone know for certain which of the 2 locations it is for my model (or is one location the Buzzer and one the Relay)?

The interior lights go on and off with the door switch, so it works (if the switch operates both features). But I 've got 2 door switches, so I don't know what the second one does.

Is there anything else I could check?

Thanks again for everyone's help,
Tom :D

I hope no one minds me posting on another MB forum as well. I'm a member of both and some are really knowledgeable in certain areas, and some more in other areas.

I think one door switch is for the interior lights and the other is for "lights on warning buzzer" so try replacing one. Open door and push finger to close one and see when your interior lights go out - then you can work out which one is for each function. Replace the buzzer one and see if that fixes problem.

Cool, thanks Stevie A. I know that pressing one will operate the Light, so I think the bottom one must be for the buzzer. I'll test the switches and try to find the buzzer :D

Hi everyone,
I couldn't find the relay or box in either the Left or Right hand footwell. It is supposed to be near the Hood release (which is the passenger side for me), but it's not there. But it would make more sense to be on the driver's side for RHD cars, so I checked there as well. I undid the side-panels (towards the outside of the car) and pulled up the carpet, but there was nothing there.

I'll pull up some more panels, but the only place I didn't check was both inside footwell panels.

I got the Speedo cluster off, but I don't think the buzzer relay is here. Most people seemed sure it was in the footwell, but one or two thought it might be behind the speedo cluster.

Or is it the one relay that is there?
(ignore the numbers, that's for the post where my 'EXH Temp' light isn't illuminating)

Here's a pic of the back of my cluster.

Try looking on the 190E forum on "benzworld.org" I think it is. As I remember ages ago someone going on about this buzzer, but the one they had was stuck on all the time.

If I remember I'll switch on my car's lights and open the door and listen to where the buzz is coming from then let you know.

Ok, I'll check it out. Thanks for the tip. I'm a member of their forum as well, but I'll search a bit hard this time. :D

P.S. Yeah, it would be good to confirm where it came from Stevie A .

I had a listen tonight and it sounded like the buzzer was coming from the speedo area. Go into a dealer and ask them to show you a diagram for where the buzzer goes on your car is and they'll give you a print out if you ask politely.

Hmm, ok. I just put back may Speedo, after thinking it wasn't there (see the images above).
But I'll ask the dealer, thanks.

Buzzer still not working :(
I took out the floor panels again to take some pictures.
I've also finally checked the 2nd Switch in the Driver's door. The top one is for Interior Lights, and the bottom one should be for the Buzzer. It has continuity when released and closed circuit when pushed in (seems fine). It also has 12V on one pin when the Lights are turned on, and 0V when Lights are off (also seems fine).

It looks like I don't have a Buzzer. Could that be? More likely that it was removed if it's as annoying as people say it is :).

P.S. I took pictures of both floor areas, because my 190 is Right Hand Drive. So maybe the buzzer stayed on the Left (Passenger side), or they moved it closer to the Driver's Door switch (Right hand side). The yellow wire on the Left hand side is an aftermarket Audio cable that someone ran to the rear speakers (which are no longer there).

So, can anyone say if their Buzzer is where mine should be (in one of the pics)??

Thanks,
Tom

I did some work on this Buzzer problem today. :)
The MB dealer didn't have much time for me (i guess because I didn't want to book it in for an 'unknown' amount of time for them to fix it).

The 2nd Door Switch that should operate the Buzzer works, and I traced the wires to the bottom of the fuse box. The Relay below clicks when the door switch is pressed.
I was hoping I could trace the wires somewhere but now I'm stuck at this point. Doe anyone have any idea which Contacts should continue on to the buzzer?

I don't care if I don't have a buzzer, I just want to trace the wires and put one in somewhere.
Thank you

EDIT: I worked it out. There are only 4 contacts when I pull the relay out, so I measured continuity and Power.
85 is GND, 30 is PWR, 86 is Switched PWR (switched by the Door Switch), so that only leaves 87 (87a has no contact).
:D :D Yipee, now I only have to find if there’s a contact on the bottom of the fuse box that goes to 87 (not as easy as it sounds, because it’s a mass of cables down there…..

*Sorry, my stupid Internet Explorer won't let me edit any posts today*

It looks like we've come to a dead-end and concluded that I don't have a buzzer. The relay is for the Electric Windows (mine work without the ignition key IF the Driver's door is open). That explains the purpose of the supposed buzzer switch in the door. It's not for the buzzer, it's for the Electric windows.

I will just install one from a a local electronics store myself.
Thanks for your help everyone ;) .
