I have recently moved to a house which is on a road lined with lime trees. Theres no getting away from them as theyv been planted in all the surrounding streets too.

Every morning my car is covered in sticky scum....i given up washing it now for over a month and my nice amg 190 now looks like a greek taxi.

I washed it once at a hand wash place and it only got some of it off....its obvious it needs a ****** good valet...however the question is...does the lime do any long lasting damage to my paintwork or am i just lumbered with a regular wash job......and the need for a new house!

I do not think that those stycky spots do any harm, when I forget at a friends house I curse, but it never leaves a mark.

Years ago at one of my old houses I had a lime tree, a good friend of mine had a 280SL pagoda, it was maroon with gold plated badges as he was a gold smith, he could never remember to park somewhere else, always under the tree with the roof off the car. The language when he got back to the car.

Why don't you kill the offending one, or dig it up at night and plant something else. The cars look nice though with a bit of dust stuck to the sap.

No real solution, but with water based paints (not hear) being so soft, protection is probably the answer. Double wax it, and then a quick sealer coat every 4 months.

I lived for 18yrs in a lime tree lined avenue and they were huge trees. It was a constant nuisance having that sticky stuff all over the cars, but it never did any damage to the paintwork.
