All the high-power and AMG cars have their top speed limited to 155mph.If you took off the limiter, what speeds could you expect?

Thanks in anticipation,Darrell.

I was told for mine that if the limiter was taken off I should hit the 170 mark.

If you know the max revs of engine and you know what revs it is doing at a certain speed, you can work out the theroretical speed but not the true cars speed due to losses.

Passed the endo of the speedo and tyre's ability!

They just seem to go on and on.....unfortunately roads don't!

The problem is you have to check that your tyres and trim will stay attached and often tape the seems!

A CLK 320 V6 will activate the limiter at 155...delimited and unmodified ....the acceleration will be slow but goes on .....unfortunately U run out of speedo before grunt so more mods are needed...

would be interesting to ask the factory and testers though?

(170+)

it depends on the horse power your car puts out and the gear ratios and wheel sizes it has.

for arguments sake, A 650+BHP sl600 can only do 198 as its gear ratios and wheels size wont let it go faster. differing wheel sizes can take one over 200mph but the acceleration will be a tad slower.

the slk i had was derstricted and had 399bhp. in theory with the 7gtronic, it could do 215mph. however with only 399bhp it would have struggled to top 180ish, but it did easily do 164mph on a runway. given a long enough road, it may well have maxed out around 180.

some AMG's have a secondary restrictor limiting them to 186mph as AMG dont fit the suggested aero package to some models for higher speeds.

the SLK had its secondary limit at 176mhp for the same reason and this is also whey the black seris SLK is restricted to 173mph.

But they can take that off as well:-D

If I can find a link, I will post up a sight that gives you an estimated top speed figure based on your BHP and ratios.

look forward to readind about it in the papers:D , or are you passing by an unrestriced autobahn? you would need around 3miles of clear straight level road and if you dont reach 170 in that time, your car wont do it.

1.6miles got me up to 164. about another mile and it would have had no more left in it. the accleration dies off after 120 and significantly beyond 150.

There is a chap on the 'other' forum who has just sold his CL65. The CL was derestricted and 'chipped' to produce circa 730bhp. He regularly had it up in the 190's at various airfields but ran out of tarmac. When travelling through Germany not so long ago he had it up to 209mph!

i was told by someone recently that they got 180 out of their car recently :)

he he it was me - i was trying to find out if the car was derestricted - i suspected i might be a bit busy to look at the speedo even at 155 MPH - so i zeroed the speed memory on my GPS and after having a good run just under 4 miles and slightly down hill in the last mile - it had recorded 180 MPH as the max speed - this was of course not on public roads in the UK  ;)

i did notice at the start when i was giving it big welly the triangle in the speedo was flashing and it did that again when i lifted off - having decided that whatever speed i had got was more than 'fast enough' - obviously this moment of madness was over in about 2 minutes - what does the flashing light mean apart from your being very very silly???
