Tonight's job will be to bring the 230 out of the nice warm dry garage and leave outside for what part of the storm we receive so I can put the Z4 in garage to dry out the boot with all its electrics and 3" of water. Not only R230's suffer from cr@p boot sealing.

This is our 6th and the Z4 is the only one that has leaked !, but guess its only the second that is left outside.

I am waiting for the R231 to leak, but it never has yet, It is outside at the moment, so Storm Ciaran should give it a good test.

My SL is stored in doors so no chance for it to leak or for me to know whether it would given the chance - but my E46 M3 Convertible was always left outdoors and never leaked at all...

An E46 is an itch that I get quite often in M3 format, coupe though, I'm not one for 4 seat convertibles.

Took the r230 out yesterday for a run around the block. Put the windows down and lo and behold the left ones wouldn't go back up.

Bollocks to it. Back on the drive and cover on. Something to sort another day.

Hi. Back in the days of better weather, which seems ages ago, I found two small, not quite 50p size discs (with a cut-out) in the boot, on the rhs, after the roof had been down. See photo. Can someone tell me where they are from and what I should do with them? Thanks. D

I am having similar thoughts with an old Rega turntable. I have re-soldered the phono plugs twice and the thing works fine on the bench, when tested with a meter. As soon as I take it in the house and plug it into the amp, one channel drops out. It is like it is laughing at me.

I almost gave up, but with a new day comes new hope. I have ordered new plugs and will try again. It is too good to give up on.

Well in the best traditions of the r230 I went out to it last night to empty the dehumidifier (pulled out about 2 gallons in the last fortnight but that could be down to the window being open) and thought 'lets see if the window works and it went straight up.

Dehumidifier emptied, door closed and cover on.

Where are these located in the car and what are they for / what do you need to do to keep them clean / empty / in good cond?

Normally put dehumidifier in the footwell. Depending on make and model you will have to regularly empty the water they remove from car interior. The de-humidifier will require connection to the electric mains so that needs careful consideration. If condensation and water leaks are not a major problem you might get similar results with large made for the purpose silica gel bags (about size of two house bricks). Plenty for sale on Amazon and e-bay. I have a couple that are under front seats at rear. I can regenerate them by drying them out in a very low temperature oven. If too high a temperature the plastic backing will melt! Ask me how I know.

The dessicant bags are good to a point but won't pull out all the water.
I put mine in the footwell as you said. Power lead runs out at the bottom of the door. It's thin enough to compress the door rubbers and not be pinched.

There are several types of dehumidifiers. Compressor ones are best for warmer temps but lose efficiency below 15 degrees.
Dessicant dehumidifiers (as opposed to bags) tend to be lighter smaller and cheaper and are better for lower temperatures.

My own one is a compressor one as it was bought to be used indoors but does duty in the car from time to time.

I changed the cabin filters on the r230 at the weekend. the old filters had a rigid black plastic exterior, and were filthy! However the new Mann Filters that I got from Eurocarparts had a styrofoam exterior... have I messed up?
