Load Cover

Hi all,

I've got a C class estate and there's a load cover in the back, along with a retractable dog guard (in a heavy plastic mesh) on a roller blind type thingy.

The load cover should also be a retractable one, but it won't, so I need to get the unit out. I can't see how to remove it - other than with a sledge hammer.

The handbook doesn't show this, so I assume it's a retro fit item, but here in Spain no-one seems to know about this. Actually the car started out in Italy, so maybe it's an "Italian Job".

Anybody got any ideas?

Advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

Lee

On the W124s you drop the rear seats flat and slide the whole cassette off the back of the seat. IIRC it slides out on the passenger side (UK)

Thanks Nick - the simplest way is usually the right way - why don't I ever think of that!!

Now all I've got to do is get it to bits.

Any ideas there....I notice someone has been at it already, 'cause the 4 screws on the back of the cassette are missing, but I can't get the end caps off. That seems to be the only way in, but they won't budge.

I can tell you exactly what happens when you take them to bits: a couple of springs fly out, never to be seen again, and the thing never retracts again

I'd just buy a replacement off eBay
