Hi,

I own a 2002 C220 Avantgarde with 99k on the clock which I bought in 2003 with a mere 5k covered! Given the age & mileage, I'm looking for somewhere local to service my MB other than the main dealerships.

Any ideas - I live 15 miles north of Sheffield - with Huddersfield, Wakefield and Barnsley also close by...

Check this link out thought fixed rate servicing very reasonable for main dealer

Inchcape owned dealers will do those kind of prices too, but I still think the B service, which is touted as a "major" service but in reality is the same as the A service except that they change the pollen filter and key battery, is too expensive.

Took my daughter's Mitsubishi Colt to have its 2yr/24K major service recently. That involves oil / air / pollen filters and spark plugs. I asked how much the brake fluid change would be and I nearly fell over when they said it's included as it's part of the 2yr service.

When I picked the car up they'd even stripped and cleaned the rear drum brakes. They did the work for £220. OK, it uses half the oil of a typical MB and it's only got 3 spark plugs, but this was a pukka dealer service at a franchised main dealer, and was no less work than an MB dealer would do on a Mercedes.

I had a similar fright when my Indy charged less for the A service, including synthetic oil, than the dealership charged minus the cost of the oil.

When I called the Indy subsequently to "complain" that they had not itemized the cost of the oil in the invoice, they explained that it was all in the cost of the service.

To your point on brake fluid changes, when I used a main dealer to service a car which they had sold me, according to ASSYST (2 years then), they advised me when I went to collect the car that they had not been able to do all the work (change brake fluid, flush cooling system) which they would normally have done after 2 years. They sold me the car, they had the records, they accepted the booking. And they charged the premium price. I then had to relinquish the car on a second occasion to have work done that ought to have been done on the day - and pay as much again as the "service" cost.

ASSYST is excellent, but ASSYST plus, as in this case, is time consuming and expensive - and the car was being serviced on time expired anyway (w.i.t.s.). Surely there were enough clues there to enable the service department staff to book it correctly and conduct the work in the most time/cost effective manner? No discount for the inconvenience, as I recall.
