Have an '89 300E. Slowly have progressed from being able to get in only from passenger door to now not being able to get in at all. Spent yesterday with WD40 fixin's and worked well enough to finally lock it up... but now no access!! Key doesn't turn in locks at all. One dealer says it's probably the key (worn).. somebody else (locksmith) says it could be the vacuum or a problem because I should have used lithium white instead of wd. (Lithium white might re-set the tumblers?) No one has actually looked at it yet. Weekend, ya know. Any suggestions about how to get in?

If you cant turn the key, then the fault is within the lock barrel itself.
WD 40 is not good as it is sticky and it dries.
I would get a tin of lighter fuel (refined petrol) and squirt it in the hole it evaporates quite fast trying the Key, MB sell lock grease as do lock smiths,
see how it goes

if it was just one door I would suspect the lock barrel, if it's both door locks "failing" at the same time then I'd suspect the key.

I had to replace the key on my '89 car as I was suffering from similar problems - cost about £8 for a genuine key matched to the chassis number.

If the locks are broken and you can't get into the car then I'm afraid you are going to have to buy new locks (available from the dealers) and use a little "gentle persuasion" to open the car - it can be done with no specialist tools and no damage to the car's paintwork :)

I have a way of getting into the 80's and 90's cars. It's not strictly text book but i'm an ex recovery driver / breakdown man. It is a tried and tested method but to put it up here on the forum would be irresponsible and endanger other peoples vehicles security.
PM me if you still can't get in by tonight.(12.12.05) or email me direct on:
indiana_johnston@hotmail.co.uk.

Best of luck.

Hello. emailed you. And have a locksmith coming tomorrow am. Tried white lithium grease. Think it's the key after all... or maybe parts I can't grease because I can't get inside the doors!! Thanks for the suggestions all.
