Locks 'n' Stuff

Hi

I'm new to this,but can anyone shed any light on this,I have a 500SE 89',but both driver/passengers doors locks are (what I think) broke.
The only way I can lock/unlock is through the boot,You see the key goes in but it wont turn Iv'e tried "WD" & oil,but it just wont turn,the dealer (****** cowboy) said "it worked with me the last time I tried it",yea right!!!!! (I thought),(by the way I got it quite cheap because of this).
So if anyone has a lock set available for it it'd be appreciated,but another problem has started (why is these things start just after you buy something!!!!),I have a bad missfire under load,when I sit with the car in neutral and rev it,it doesn't matter what RPM I sit at,even if I hold it for a couple of secs it doesn't miss a beat but the minute I drive off it starts missing, GGrrrrrr.
Iv'e just replaced the plugs with NGK tripple electrode thingy's,and are sparking fine (well,at tickover anyway).
So I think the only thing thats left is the Dizzy cap/rotor,and possible HT''s,oh! and not forgetting the coil,has anyone any ideas,cause' they'll be greatly appreciated.
cause' as you'll all know merc parts are not cheap,I just priced HT's and again you'll know I need 8,and at just under £40 each, ouch!

I would suggest that you get your vehicle into a specialist. If he (or she) is well equipped they will have an oscilloscope which should be able to track down the problem plug. As for NGK. I would never fit them to a merc. They cause more missfires. Not when new but a little later. I could tell you a little story about em. But its late and time I was asleep. Suffice it to say. Stick with Bosch. And don't bother with the fancy plugs either. W7DC, is whats specified. And you don't need anything else!!!! If you decide not to take my advice then you will be replacing stuff that dosn't need replacment.  The missfire sounds like a plug cap out or tracking across the distributor cap. You could try checking the resistances of each lead. This should help you locate the culprit.

As for your lock WD40 and patience does work. If not its a lock set.

Thanks,I know you say about NGK,but why are not suited to the Merc?,Iv'e only had them in a couple of days and they cost me £25 so is that the money wasted?.
I'll get the one's you say,and clean inside the cap,and see if that makes any diffirence,I'm just about to go to the shops (lucky me,'mmm'),and I'll look for "blue sparking" at the HT's.
I had a funny feeling I would hear that regarding the locks,oh well!,better start looking for them,well thanks for advice and I'll try it,cheers.

Just a thought, the locks in the doors havent been changed by any chance, maybe because of a break in? and the dealer forgot to give you that key?

yea,I know what your sayin',and I did ask him just that but all he said was "that was the way it came to us",so I dont know.Mind you I did speak to the previous guy (who was chinese),and the language barrier,my god!,neither of us were doing any good talking.
I mean the key goes "in" but it just wont turn,Iv'e tried WD' and oil and it just wont loosen,so I reckon on new locks,what do you think?

Following on fron Andy's comment about spark plugs, i would be interested to hear your story Andy.

Many moons ago i used to work as a mechanic, and i always found that certian makes of cars worked better,  on what i can only describe as their countries make of plug I.E. everything Leyland made worked best on Champion, Fords like Motorcraft, and its a dead cert that if you use anything other than NGK,  in something from the land of the rising sun, then it will cause problems. I have never had a problem with NGK in a jap engine, but if you put Bosch in then you will.

I may well have stolen your punch line Andy, but i'm still interested???????????
