I am looking at my first Merc - a 320CDi Estate - any advice or experience of the new model would be gratefully recieved.

Does the strange noise from No1 cylinder still rear it's ugly head?

What about the Dealer back up when things go wrong - is it good, bad or ugly.

Any experiences would be good to hear.

Many thanks !

:x :x :x My advice Neil....having an E320cdi estate Avantgarde is......dont even think about it. Over here we pay about 25% more than you do. The car is built badly, full of problems. Politeness and civility are alien to the service centres. Read this site very carefully and note the comments being made. Do it with your wife too. They want almost £40k of your hard earned money and you get a car thats riddled with electrical problems, likely to blow a transmission at 5k, could disintegrate the fuel pump and send nice metally bits into the infectors and engine, interior bits fall off, electrical voltage problems that will surely blow your ECU [£painful]. There is an endless list. You know I thought Mercs were special and that you got treated nicely. An MB service centre in one day made me realise these are just an ordinary car like any other and you get treated like Joe Public.

Three breakdowns in 18 months, not bad. For a car that costs more than a house, not on. Fiats never do that.

Wait a while, even though it is smaller I reckon the Jaguar X type estate is a great car and when it gets the Peugeot 200bhp V6 diesel motor in the autumn its going to make the Merc look the unreliable car that it is. Jaguar smoothness, driveability, a great engine and nice customer service. And don't think getting a different model will help. My business neighbour sent his one back and demanded a refund after 6 breakdowns.

If you want to talk about it email me at olafmaxwell@hotmail.com

I love my E320 cdi i've had no problems in nearly 3 years apart from a key fob break which was replaced under warranty and my local dealership are good but very expensive.

If i was to replace it tomorrow i would buy another (Or a AMG if i had the dosh!!:))

You cant buy a house around here for that money though;):)

IMO the only cars that come close are the BMW's but they look like they fell out of the ugly tree!!!
