It's a ML 270CDI Inspiration 03 plate with 61,000 going for £13995.

What does the Inspiration have that's different from the normal models.

I know the interior has white stitching, is there anything else ??

I saw an inspiration recently on a car park so I parked next to it, as you do and the body kit looked slightly different to mine as well as the alloys, It also had parking sensors, for that price it is definately worth a look.

ML's seem to be getting quite popular at the moment, have people finally seen the light and seen what a cracking motor they are for the money, luxury, power and 4 x 4 practical ability.

The car just wasn't quite right.

It looked a little tatty inside, with scratches on the burr wood, dirty carpet by the foot parking brake and the driver seat bolster was worn.

On the outside, it had some deep water marks on the rear, the front bumper was scuffed and it had a lot of stone chips, some of which were Rusty.

Oh and the two back tyres were at around 3 mil and the rear discs had quite a lip on them.

It just didn't look loved.:-(

That said it drove very nice.

Am I being too fussy??

The other thing is, I'm considering a petrol also, the price of the 320's and 350's is good, with a lower mileage than most of the diesels.

Is there much difference in grunt between the 320, 350 and deisel (270)

What's the consumption on the 350?, only do around 6K a year !!

Hello Rob,

I've just been in your position and swaped a 330 convertible BM for an ML.

Initialy head says 270cdi, but I was used to a little bit of go in the 330, so looked at 350's. I only do 6k a year also so paying more for the CDi didn't seem to make sence. The Cdi's also tend to have a lot more miles on compared to the petrol ones.

Ooh and the pertol makes a nice sound and is a quite on start up.

I searched everywhere for a inspiration model as it has imho a nicer interior than a normal ML and I liked the dark birds eye wood. The front seats are sport ones out of an AMG, with the stitching on the leather. You also get a leather wheel with stitching and gear shift, dark birds eye wood, 17" alloys, chrome dials, exit sills in chrome, special mats?,AMG type front grille, and lower chrome mesh.

I've only had mine 2 months and on various driving I am getting 22.5 mpg, some people on here say they only get 25 out of the 270?? I would think on a nice run staedy on cruise it would do 25 as I've been having fun also and still got 22.5

It drives great and is sooo quite, the 350 is actually a 3.7L, I cannot compare to a 320 as never drove one (only a 500 for a short time) and that was very nice...but fuel computer said 12-13mpg...

Before buying I did my research and it was recommended to get the lux pack and family pack, on and a facelifted model which it will be if a 350 with indicators in mirrors.

Pics of mine..

Nice, what fantastic looking motors. If you particularly want a diesel, hang on for one, mine only had 31,000 miles on the clock when I bought it and was immaculate (until I took it off roading) and mine always seems to do either 23.7 or 24.7 to the gallon regardless if driving like a vicars wife or a lunatic, I love the growl of the engine and it certainly moves.

Hello,

I would also wait for the right one, I drove 400 mile round trip to buy the one I did, one owner and looked imaculate. The new owner would have paid close on if not more than 40K and I got it for a fair bit less than half!

Scuffs on the seats, trim and body could all be sorted but agree it doesn't give a good impression of how its been looked after.

Was out in mine today with all the windows down and the engine sounds great when the go pedal is pressed )

One thing if you go for a 270 I was looking at having it remapped, Brabus do a chip (think its called D3??) or similar, bhp goes up to around 200 but torque could tow a plane....

Its another option..

I took the wife to see a 200 MY 270 asking price £9600, I said I will give it a miss. He said so whats wrong with it,

two front tyres ilegal, 3 different tyres
repaint work poor (he didnt know it had been painted.)
serviced two days ago, oil on dipstick like black treacle.
hole in carpet from heel on drivers side.
broken front air dam.
worn shifter stick and steering wheel.
Loose trim below headlamp.
generally uncared for ML!!!!!!

I offered £6000 for cash, he said NO its the cheapest in the UK today, I said its not as Ive got 5 to see and yours is the most expensive.

Many thanks A210AMG you've been extremely helpfull, oh and your car is stunning mate !!!!!

Iv'e seen a 350, exactly the same spec as yours (Inspiration), now I'm really considering it.

On the tax side of things, is the 270 cheaper or the same as the 350??

I know, more questions.:D

Hi Rob,

No problems I spent ages looking and searching, wanted the inspiration model and silver so waited and waited seached and searched.

Not sure if tax any less on Cdi, but its 210 a year (same as my 330 convertible I swapped) what did supprise me is my insurance was half!!

£350 for the ML against nearly £700 for bm??

have to say it drives GREAT makes a lovely sound...and I think it look very smart with the chrome bits.

We have a trip to france soon so 2000 - 2500 miles (a major chunk of my annual millage!) so will report back on fuel. So far 22-25mpg is fine by me )

Any questions ask, I've probably looked into it...

cheers

There becoming popular because there cheap and you get a lot of car for your money. Consider I paid 37Grand for mine and you can now pick it up for 12!!!

Other good thing is there very DIYable, so if youve got the time and patience, you can do nearly all the jobs yourself and save a bundle.

Hello Agree with Psmart,

I had a New top of the range freelander Sport TD4 premuim a few years back and the ML I have now knocks spots of it for a LOT less. Its great letting someone else lose a shed load.

Will admit I have had new several times and yes its nice, but think I have seen the light now.

So I hope in three years there's a nice spec new shape ML waiting for me thats been as well looked after as my current car.

Prior to March 1st 2001 cars pay flat rate of £180 if over 1600cc..

After that tax is based on CO2 emissions. At that time top band was over 185 and both the 270cdi and the 350 are over that on emissions so are band F and pay £205.

BUT from March 23rd 2006 new higher band comes in : band G for emissions over 225. That puts the new model ML into the top band both for all the diesel versions and for all the petrol versions. IF car registered after March 23rd 2006. They will pay treble the residents parking permit in Richmond and £25 per day congestion charge in London instead of £8 per day for smaller cars. And pay the band G vehicle tax (now £300).

So put simply ML's registered between March 1st 2001 and March 23rd 2006 all pay the same road tax (£205) and pay the same Congestion Charge whether 2.7 or 3.5 or 5.0 litres!

And ML's prior to 2001 also pay the same regardless of size (but only £180).

The logic is that there is no point in penalising cars that were bought before the new tax regime came into force; they already exist. The new taxes are to deter future purchases of so called gas guzzlers.
