Looking at an s class 280

can someone tell me if lpg would knacker the engine, and would it lower the horsepower, and cut the mpg even futher?

I'm not an authority on the subject but i tested some LPG/dual fuel cars when i was a fleet manager, so in my limited experience. LPG is fine for engines ie wont cause any damage but you do lose a little in performace and dont get as many miles to a tank as you would petrol.

But its a lot cheaper.

The coversions may be a bit better than they were as this was about 8 years ago.

Its only really worth it if you are going to do significant miles per year as well

im getting my CL 420 LPG'd - ok it goes from 20mpg to 17ish mpg - but because of the price, its like i will be getting 40mpg on petrol

the 420 has 'sufficient' power anyway, so a 10% loss isn't worth worrying about.

make sure the guy that does it is good - theres lots of cowboys out there.

Just out of interest, who are you getting to do your LPG conversion?......and if its not too rude to ask, how much is the conversion going to cost?

Well we've had some horror stories about LPG conversions, esp on the bigger engines. I personally wouldnt do it. Andy of Andy Gayle in birmingham also doesnt recommend.
