Looking for my 1st Mercedes!
Me again... Long time lurker really...

But in the market for a new car again; we've decided to reduce down to one car as I literally don't leave the house during the week now I've settled into my new role with Meta

So I've sold my Japanese import BMW 540i and we'll sell the wife's Racing Jazz come the New Year & when we've found the replacement

I am looking at BMW 3 & 5 series tourings; but this Japanese import Merc has caught my eye too:

I know NOTHING about Mercedes cars; so just asking for some insight into what to look for on this particular car and what kind of issues they can potentially throw up time to time

I'm handy with spanners (not so much with electrics) but have a very good pal who's a respected motorsport mechanic too; so I've got him & his ramps when necessary also etc

Cheers

Looks good.

A company up the road from me buys and sells a lot of jap import stuff, mainly VW, but what I do know is that 99% are brand new underneath because the climate is so favourable.

As longs as all the clocks are changed into europe then its no different to any other car.

Thanks; yes agree re the import cars and their overall conditions... On my 2nd Japanese import BMW and they're absolutely spotless underneath etc

Looking at the pictures; the speedo is in MPH already and not KM, so that's good...!

Can they supply the Japanese auction/inspection sheet? I’ve forgotten the proper name but they inspect the car, note any damage, repaired accident damage etc and give the car a condition grade.

Some of the imported cars are fantastic but there can be a few dodgy ones as well.

A certificate of conformity might be needed if you intend to avoid ulez in London.

Would look great with the proper grill and gunsight put back!

I can find that myself using CarVX - costs £21, so good peace of mind etc

You can get BIMTA to verify the mileage too; but that's all they do for non-Japanese vehicles

And re ULEZ, no concern for me as I live in Lancashire

Isn't there an issue with radio stations and some other compatibility issue that a non UK Comand / audio system will have being a Japanese sold MB?
Also the maps might need an update....;)

If anything like BMWs from Japan then yes, they'll pick up the main frequencies but that's about... But knowing nothing re Mercs, I don't know how their stereos work etc

And yes, will need to find if the nav can be updated to UK; the older BMWs can't, but the newer ones can etc

Nice engine the M272 - Can have a few issues - balance shaft being one - although 2010 should be well outside the affected range (My 2009 is currently on 123K miles and no issues with the M272 engine)

Looks very tidy!
It’s missing the star (gunsight) on the bonnet and the correct grill
I think the gearbox will be the 7 speed as opposed to the 7+ unit so make sure the car sets off from standstill without hesitation
The front brake discs look new can’t see the rears
A low mileage well specced car especially the leather seats and sunroof.
I’d want to see the car start up from cold first thing in the morning to check the rear air suspension doesn’t drop overnight but other than that and a good look at the paintwork I’d be tempted myself good find
