I think that he would be better off with a C class due to some of the rust issues with the 210

Hello CLK1,

Have you a clk by any chance....?

Issues on here regarding rust do tend to sway people, have to say I didn't know they were that bad until I joined the forum...

Maybe do a search and have a read around.

Cheers

My old W210 was great car apart from rust issues. For a 2002 car it was disgusting. Rust on all four arches, boot and around headlamps! Think I would agree that C class better option fot that period.

lots of cars rust. It was a design fault. Inexcusable but given that MB honoured the 30 year warranty and fixed them, (and yes I had a 2000 E class and yes it rusted), I don't think you can be that harsh.
Also 1998 was the start of the problems. 1996/7 cars should be mostly rust free.
So, check the paintwork, the front cross member and other normal points such as boot lock and the tops of the doors. Mine was certainly fixed ok and no issues ever returned, so if, for example, you were to find my old one on a used lot, it should be fine. Others had new panels and so should be ok too.
The 210 was an excellent car and if the rust is checked out thoroughly, I'd say there is no reason to run away from one.

If you can find one with a full MB history then you stand a good chance with MB UK in getting the rust repaired. Mine (99) had subframe/wings/doors/arches/boot replaced. I personally would run a mile from a Non main dealer service car. My 97 C Class was rust free
