Hi,

After having an so many problems with my current Lexus IS200 I'm looking around to buy an Mercedes Benz C 180 Kompressor Elegance SE Auto.

In the past I drove many Mercs inc. trucks so I know those vehicles.

I went to Mercedes Direct Birmingham and to Mercedes Benz Birmingham. Before I want to spend my £££ I like to know if other people on this board have good or bad experiances with those guys, or know other Mercedes Dealers.

Thanks,
Biton

Hello!

I know it's a few hours away, but we bought ours from Mercedes-Benz Taunton. In all honesty, it was a plesant experience. They even gave several concessions on the price, and lowered the cost of accessories.

Keep in mind though, I am used to the horrific experiences of buying a car in the U.S. so anything would be refreshing.

If you decide to deal with them, call Luke. Great guy!

All dealers are your best friend until you hand over the cash, then they suddenly 'aren't available'. Occasionally you get a better than average salesman who gives a better service, but that's just the luck of the drawer as you walk through the front door. You may get him, or you could end up with his p'd off collegue. I've never managed to get the same salesman twice anyway - the turnover is so fast they rarely stay at the same dealer for more than a year.

Don't buy a car based on the dealer. Buy the car you like that is offered at the best price, it doesn't matter who's selling it. I would recommend avoiding a dealer too far away, purely because (if its a used one) there can be glitches that don't fall under the warranty - e.g. mine was missing a small piece of trim. It's just easier that way.

BTW - what was the problem with the Lexus? We're always being told how wonderful they are!

Personally, if you're going down the used route I'd go for a C230K Avantgarde - insurance, tax and fuel won't be much more than the 180 and it's just a different feel behind the wheel.

Much more oomph and makes a nice howl at full chat.

Thanks for your info's.

Eh, C230K Avantgarde?? Sorry but I really want to leave fuel eating cars... I drive about 106 miles a day so every mpg will save me lots of £££ over a year. And no, I don't want to drive diesel cars thanks. Drove those since 1980...

Before rejecting the 230k - the current model is actually the 240 v6 engine. The previous incarnation of the 230k (I believe) is a 4 pot compressor with similar - if not better, fuel consumption for the type of driving you do.

Also, before rejecting the 220cdi, give it a go. You may be surprised. I do a similar mileage and not only is the diesel chaper to run by a wide margin, but the performance characteristics are better suited to distance work as, whilst the petrol is fractionally faster, you need to drop a cog to get at that performance. Floor both from 60 in top and the diesel with leave the petrol for dead.

Sure, but you forget that an C320 is on insurance group 16A and has 39.8 mpg. An C180 is on 12A with 46.3...

Now I'm on 12A insurance and 36.7 mpg with that IS200...

I thinking about an Diesel (my first every truck I drove was a Merc Diesel!), but at the moment I'm not sure. Had a bit enough of smelly hands ;)

But an C220 is on 13A and 52.3 mpg so may be who knows...

Those mpg are only highway figures since I drive only highways. In the city I use my Rav 4 since on this Island those city roads are so bad...

Thanks for your advice... I bought an C220 CDI and I love this vehicle! Drove about 4000Miles with 52.6Mpg
