Thanks.

Do we have a sticky for good MB sales web-sites?

So do you think it would it be a good idea to start one?

It is a very delicate situation, and could have repercussions on the forum owners. A member can say of their experience, that is one thing, but to have a section is another

So it's OK for forum members to recommend a particular seller but to list a load of links to MB-focused dealers w/out prejudice and/or comment it isn't?

I'd PM a mod and get some feedback re the technicalities of this. I for one hadn't thought up the liability issue for the site owners, but a dediciated thread praising and slating retailers could be a sticky one.

This is a forum 1st and foremost for enthusiasts to talk about cars and have a laugh, not an advertising venue - a dedicated thread may turn out like that and may irrevocably change this place to its detriment.

I know we have some indies mechanics and traders on here, and from time to time other members may recommend them but they are equally open to attack when things go wrong. Many traders and indies give some advice FOC, and take part as forum members in the discussions (life outside work and all that).

I was just thinking about providing a list of URLs for sellers who specialise in MB sales (if not exclusively). Nothing more, nothing less. Nothing different to the directory of services in a magazine. A buyer can go to the sites but in the knowledge it's neither blessed nor cursed by the MB forum.

Perhaps the URLs could be submitted to mods and they can post them to a locked sticky.

There are several specialist Mercedes magazines where Specialist Mercedes dealers advertise their cars. Perhaps that is where they should remain.

I'm obviously missing a trick here.

Why can people recommend an indy or in the case of this thread ad others a particular seller? Surely that could bring up 'liability issues' too?

mmm, agreed. A simple statement which stipulates that no individual on this site is liable for any comment, reference or direction given should avoid liability.

Small print does not necessarily let one off the hook, we do talk about both good and bad all alike, openly on the forum, its just that we do not have a fixed thread on the subect.

Yes we have indies and dealers that do have a good name, and we recommend them

Hi Seeker
If "people" choose to recommend a dealer, seller or repair agent, then it is simply that. A recommendation from one member to another regarding that members experiences with the company (organisation / person) mentioned.
If a section or thread were started on the forum it "could" be construed that the forum was (in some way) endorsing the company's/ organisations/ persons that were entered into that section/thread, and this is why (I think) Television is saying no to you. A forum, by its very nature should be "seen" to be impartial otherwise it will just become an advertising board. Also remember that if a company or organisation was not mentioned in the proposed section would that mean a) they were not any good? b) they had simply been omitted? c)they had requested not to to have their details published? or d) they had not paid (if there was any payment required (another can of worms...)) for said placement, and what are the ongoing implications of suggestion in any of the above cases?
In my humble view it is much simpler to leave members to ask questions and other members to answer them as it is now :) I also think that the mods would not thank us for loading them up with more work or responsibility
