My name is Abid Pervaiz. I own a Mercedes Benz C180 model, 1999 automatic and wanted some help so I was wondering if you could guide me that when the radiator sign appears on the console what does it indicate and what and how many things are to be checked when this happens. More so I want to tell you that the first time the radiator sign appeared on the console I contacted the local dealer but they were unable to detect any fault whatsoever, the sign then appeared for the second time and then the third time it appeared the car's AC stopped working along with the fan and the car got heated up. Then I also checked the radiator but no problem was there. So if you would be kind enough to let me know what the radiator sign appearing on the console indicates and what things should be checked when this happens.

Even more so, I wanted a relay unit having the number A0275458132ESG400 HKR System E5001.001 for my Mercedes which is imported from UK. Can you please also tell me that how I can obtain the part (relay unit) the number of which is written above. I have contacted my local dealer but they are of no help I was wondering if you would be kind enough to tell me about how and from where to obtain the aforesaid part.

Awaiting your prompt response,

Abid Pervaiz

Hi Abid,

There are lots of places in Europe you could get the parts from, for example:

www.mercedes-benz-parts.co.uk - enter the part number then contact them to see how much postage is to Pakistan.
Call or Fax Mercedes Dealership on +49-211-4401-666 / +49-211-4401-814 - they will be able to get the parts and quote you on P&P.

The other main choice is Ebay, either www.ebay.de or www.ebay.co.uk - search for the part number / name (on the .de one, convert the name into German using babelfish.altavista.com/tr ).

One thing to note is that Pakistan, like most countries, may charge import duty on goods you receive. It would be worth checking up how much your government charges for car parts before you order, otherwise you could get a very large bill.

The radiator sign is possibly indicating low water (check the user manual of you car, it will tell you the location) or over temperature (which is either low on water, a water leak or something more sinister like a broken cooling fan, blocked radiator).

regarding the import duty, I ask people to mark the item as a gift, this way you avoid the duty.

ebay.de is very good for parts, I purchased an item from somebodey in germany, they were infact a dealer and i now buy many of my parts direct from them, with considerable savings c.f to the UK!!

Sometimes it works, sometimes not, its all a government conn to get more taxes and backhanders from CEO's.
I recently got a system from China, but still got an import duty demand, even though it was described as gift! I think sometimes they x-ray spot check.
