Loose Dashboard Trim

Hi,

I have just purchased a 2003 C180 Kompressor 4 door saloon. The previous owner had a mobile phone kit installed which included a phone holder which has been removed.

As a result of this the wooden trim around the radio is not secured at the bottom around the AC controls. I have been told that there are two screws which are probably missing which should be replaced. In order to to this I need to remove the ashtray completely.

How do I acheive this? I don't want to just jump in and damage any trim trying to get it out. Any insight into as to how I get this out would be gratefully received. I am no stranger to taking all manner of cars to bits but with the cost of a wooden facsia running at over £120 I am feeling a little cautious.

Regards,

Surj

Thanks,

That is the same picture that I saw at the dealer. The problem is that I don't know how to get the ashtray out in order to get access to the 2 screws which hold the bottom of the facsia in place.

to remove ash tray, there are two lugs, one each side at the bottom of ash tray, you press the lugs back, the the ashtray housing comes out.

there are 2 locks for the front cover, in the ash tray hole, these are probably undone, that is why the cover is loose.

To remove completely

you need to remove the top heater vant, pivot air nozels upward, and remove 2 screws bottom. pivot air nozels down, press the 2 catch lugs in the top, down, then remove vent cover.
