Loose seat belts

The drivers side seat belt on my 2000X E240 has lost it's tension and often struggles to return into the housing. I'm presuming there is a spring mechanism in the housing and it's lost it's tension over the years. If I pick up the end of the belt it will return, but slowly. If I forget to do this the seat belt often ends up trapped in the door. I'm loth to start trying to dismantle the housing as there is no sign of any fastenings and I don't want to cause any damage. Any ideas? Or should I just leave it to the garage next time it's serviced?

Any help/advice appreciated.

This is not an easy thing to do in you are not confident in these things, Its all tied up with the Air bags and auto tensioners. the retractor cannot be serviced and must be replaced.

"Retractor" - that's the word I was looking for! Any idea how much one costs?
However I think I'll take your advice and leave well alone as it could get quite complicated and it's a minor inconvenience.

Thanks
Brian
