Loosing power sprinter 311 x reg

Hi can anyone help I have an x reg 2000 sprinter 311 and has only done 70.000 miles but the engine light has come on. While driving it just looses power if i take your foot of the ecelorator then back on it picks up again then the next time i may have to do this several time and it seems to be mostly going up hill can anyone please cast any light on my problem thanks in advance....
