Hi can anyone shed any light on Lorinser wheels and the fitting there of -I have just bought a set of Lorinser wheels which were originally intended as an after market option on W126s - being a bit nieve:( I took them straight to the tyre place ) and alas the bolts for my old wheels are way too long -does anyone know what sort of bolts I need and where I can source them and will I need a spacer or will they just hook straight up. The other thing I wanted to know was does anyone know what original finish these wheels would have been or have any images of these wheels as they were as mine are in a rather bling polished finish ( not that there is anything wrong with bling !) thanks charles

The originals were clear lacquer finished.

When the wheel bolt is through the hole there should around 18mm sticking out of the rear of the wheel you can cut down the original as long as the thread is coming all the way through

Hi Malcolm thanks for your promt reply -being a bit thick here -the bolts I have currently half way along the shank have a lip which prevents them going all the way through perhaps these are not original bolts in the first place - the threaded section is about 20mm which seems right 500 mm to the lip and then 500 mm to the rachett end any ideas ?

When you say clear lacquer do you mean clear lacquer over bear alloy or clear lacquer over painted alloy -thanks so much for your knowledge !

With these wheels they were lacquered over polished alli, this finish is not all that durable and after a few year they got white water marks under the lacquer.

being expensive wheels to re finish many just took the lacquer off and left them polished alli this can stand up quite well if poilished every few months with say T cut and then waxed.

You bolts should be 12mm firms like top gear sell chrome bolts at £1 each,, MB only do a 28mm non painted bolt at £1.80 each.

There lenght is not so important in the front as long as they do the wheel up tight,, but care must be taken for the rear as over 18mm going in, they will get caught up on the parking brake shoes.

Hope this helps a little

Thanks so much for that Malcolm -have you had any experience of stripping back the lacquer and polishing out the water marks and then doing a diy re lacquer with a shake n spray or is this to be avoided - I was thinking of using TCut to remove the lacquer or perhaps ferecla compound ? the ones I have bought have the internal parts painted a dark graphite grey and the rest of the wheel is lacquered ali.

You will not T cut off the lacquer its too thick,,either mask of the center first then use a stripper ( narrow masking tape goes around bends easier) the proble with home aerosols is there is no strenght in it and it could soon come off

Using a fine wet and dry first to get a smooth finish then polish
