Greetings!

My 1981 280SL has an additional problem to the loud a/c compressor. When I park and wait for over a few minutes to lock the car, the locks on the passenger side and trunk don't work. The driver's door locks, but I think that's because it doesn't depend on the vacuum to lock. I have checked the vacuum system to the extent that I can, but not entirely and would appreciate some info on how to do the job on this vehicle. I also get a kind of pulsating when I engage speed control and have a suspicion that this is related to the car not maintaining consistent vacuum pressure as well. Any ideas? Thanks.

in the days that i drove a 123 series 280e-1982 model,i had a similar fault as you describe,in my case it turned about to be door lock actuator which was leaking-to get to it you need to remove the interior door trim.

good luck

Thank you for your reply, Sunil. I have a feeling one of the diaphragms is leaking, and after 22 years I guess I would be too! Just haven't gotten around to pulling that trim off. I have done it before and it is a little tricky. Any thoughts on my a/c situation where the compressor is loud at 1400 and 2800rpm? See post previously.
