Hello All,

so, my 2013 Mercedes E350 (w212)has a problem that I’m hoping some of you guys or girls on here may be able to help diagnose, I’m going to be selling the vehicle soon and so obviously want to get this problem sorted before selling.

the problem is that when driving the vehicle, it drives perfectly normally but it will sometimes slip into a state of almost limp mode, I’ll go to kick down and nothing, it will pick up speed but very very slowly, and it will not change up gear until it hits 3000 revs but no engine light comes on or anything and nothing has shown up on the 2 diagnostics I’ve had in the past, so I’ll pull over and turn the engine off, wait for a minute or so, then start the car up again and hey presto, it’s back to normal.

if anyone has any ideas on what this could be, I’d be delighted to hear your comments, thanks in advance

Turbo actuator.
Can be replaced seperaty, you need to make sure the replacement has same no as the one present. Its a fiddly DIY about 2 hours. I assume you have a OM642 engine (diesel).

pop the engine cover off , get someone to eyeball the turbo , flick ignition on and off , the wastegate actuator should flick open and shut as you turn the ignition , if its doesn't its buggered but check the fuse that protects it aswell ,just in case

Stop guessing people, it doesn't work.
Read fault codes and take it from there.
Otherwise you can throw thousands at these cars without fixing the issue.

Sounds exactly like the turbo actuator on my OM642 Merc I had. Simples to remove. Internal cog had gone bad. Company in leicester rebuilt for me. It was a few years ago, from memory.was.about £60 including postage, with I think a 3 day turnaround

Appreciate your input bembo thanks, now, that thing your talking about, does it sit just behind the MAF sensor, windscreen side, it’s a linkage attached to a body, that linkage turns about a quarter Of a turn when you put the ignition on and then turns back when you turn the ignition off?

Is that it? If so, that does turn back and forth when I turn the ignition on and off

hes not guessing , as said hes had it plugged into twice already

Depends what it's been scanned with. Some pro scanners pick up more than a Halfords or the ilk generic ones are next to useless

Unplug maf sensors on air intake,.1 each side. Car would still.tun on default map data from ecu. Would throw a code up though. However it's easy to check. Any unmetered air from where air intake attaches to turbo

Hi Stafford

the maf unit is fairly new (18 months old 600+ quid ouch) and the problem was there before that but it seems to have gotten more frequent over time, I understand about unplugging the sensors either side of the maf, as I’ve done that before when I replaced it, however I don’t follow the last bit about any unmetered air where it attaches to the turbo.
